The Art Review: Queen’s Jubilee special

As we head towards the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, James Nicholls explores how her reign has been captured on canvas through hundreds of portraits created during her 70 years on the throne.

We visit the Mall Galleries for a special Royal exhibition and to meet some of those who’ve been honoured with the permission to paint her and the National Portrait Gallery’s Chief Curator, Dr Alison Smith tells us about the history of Royal portraits, and how her Majesty has contributed to that tradition.

The Royal Society of Portrait Painters exhibition is on at the Mall Galleries until 14 May.
