Engineer on how Thames Barrier needs to adapt as it celebrates 40th Anniversary

Hailed as one of London’s most developed forms of engineering and without it, parts of the capital could be victim to frequent tidal flooding risking damage and even lives.

But how does it actually work and how will it have to adapt with the changing climate?

Richard Bayfield, Fellow and Trustee at the Institution of Civil Engineers, speaks with Shadia about how the Thames Barrier has protected over 1.4 million Londoners from being flooded for the last 40 years.
