Former Police Officer’s Lifelong Search for Justice for Yvonne

40 years ago on the 17th of April – 1984 – twenty-five year old Police officer Yvonne Fletcher was killed by shots fired from the Libyan Embassy in London to a crowd of protestors outside.
Yvonne was there policing the event where activists took to the streets to protest against the rule of then leader Muammar Gaddafi. Her death sparked an 11-day siege of the Embassy, with everyone inside the embassy expelled from the United Kingdom at the time – putting diplomatic relations between the UK and Libya on ice for years. Former Metropolitan Police officer John Murray, a friend and colleague of Yvonne Fletcher, spoke to London Live’s Simon Anderson about his 40-year-long promise to bring justice for Yvonne.
