New commission from Art On The Underground at Brixton station

Art on the Underground’s latest instalment has arrived at Brixton station.

As commuters walk down the stairs they’ll see the piece, titled ‘5 More Minutes’, depicting a typical hair salon one might find on one of the roads surrounding the station.

It’s artist, Joy Labinjo, wanted it to reflect the sense of memory and belonging she feels as a British-Nigerian from the area.

James met with Joy and Eleanor Pinfield from Art on the Underground – who commission the works.

Joy’s piece will remain at the entrance to Brixton underground station for a year.
