One Londoner made homeless every 11 minutes

The Single Homeless Project, which works to prevent homelessness and transform lives says current conditions in the capital mean one Londoner is being made homeless every 11 minutes.

The charity says low benefit levels and private rental prices are contributing to a rising number of people living in arrears. The organisation has called on the government to take action against what it says is a disproportionately low benefit cap for the capital, and to tackle the private rental sector where councils and charities often have to pay incentives to landlords for them to accept people experiencing homelessness as tenants.

The charity has used homeless figures from local authorities and data on rough sleeping levels to paint a picture of homelessness in the city.

Anthony has been speaking to their Chief Executive.
