Two day trial over US extradition of Julian Assange begins at the Royal Courts of Justice

The High Court will decide whether or not the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange can appeal the 2022 decision to extradite him to the United States.

Lawyers acting on behalf of Assange argued ‘he will not face a fair trial’ if sent to the US.

Assange, who has been held in Belmarsh prison for almost five years, has been fighting to clear his name as he is wanted by the US for his alleged role in “one of the largest compromises of classified information in the history of the United States”.

His wife Stella Assange says ‘it would amount to a death sentence.’

James Dickman reports.
