Ancient Japanese artform called Rakugo is coming to the capital

What do you get when you combine a years-long master and apprentice relationship, stand up comedy and 400 years of Japanese entertainment and folk tales?

Well you can be forgiven for not knowing but it’s called Rakugo theatre!

It’s an ancient traditional form of Japanese comedy.

Simon has been speaking to Canadian-born entertainer Katsura Sunshine, a former apprentice of a master of the artform for 3 years in Japan, and Italian stand up comedian Luca Cupani.

They’re bringing a new production to London for a theatrical residency called ‘Rakugo and Sunshine’.

The show opens tomorrow for it’s new residency at the Leicester Square theatre, with one performance per month.
