Thornton Heath Afrobeat Orchestra awarded funding

A South London music charity has been awarded £15,000 by Arts Council England to set up an Afrobeat Orchestra for young people in Thornton Heath.

The Music Relief Foundation is an outreach project to give young children a chance to learn and play instruments in a band – when typically the opportunities to do so in the capital come at a high cost, reserved for wealthier parents.

London Live spoke with the bandleader Edward Cubitt, as well as the Foundation’s CEO Magdalene Adenaike about the importance of funding arts in communities in London, when cash reserves for it have been cut considerably.
