What will the Government’s new immigration rules mean for London

The government wishes to introduce a new points system for immigration. People wishing to immigrate to the country will have to meet certain criteria one of which is to earn over £30,000.

The Mayor has described the government’s new immigration plans as an attack on London. Under the proposal low-skilled workers would fail to reach a new points based threshold required to qualify for employment in the UK. In a post on twitter, Sadiq Khan said rather than recognising the positive impact of immigration on our economy, the government was pulling up the drawbridge.

We heard the Home Secretary Priti Patel and Satbir from the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants.
